Wedding Cake Questions

Belle Cake and Candy Questions

Wedding Cake Questions
1.How do we choose our wedding cake?
Your wedding cake starts with a consultation with
our cake designers. There, you will flip through our
portfolio to determine the overall style or setup
of the cake (stack-one tier directly on the other
with no space, pillars, stand etc.).
Once the setup and number of tiers have been determined
it's time for the details. Remember to bring copies
of invitations, pictures of your dress, colour swatches,
a list for flowers to be used by the florist and any
other detail which will be incorporated into the reception.
Many of the cake designs you see in our gallery were
inspired by these details.

2. What types of wedding cake are available?
Baked in 3 or 4 inch heights we offer Dark Chocolate,
Very Raspberry, Exquisite White, Lite Lemon Citrus
and Amaretto. If you and your fiancé can't
agree on one flavour don't worry. We allow you to
have different flavours for each tier at no added
charge.

3. Do we get to taste the different cake selections?
Of course! To quote our baker, "You wouldn't
buy a car without a test drive, why buy a cake without
a taste?" Cake tasting is standard with all of
our consultations. This is the perfect time to invite
the groom along, he will definitely want to taste
the cake!

4. What is torting? (To fill or not to fill that
is the question!)
We no longer offer torting (filling between layers of cake)
as an option; our cakes do not come torted. There
are two main reasons for this. First, we have put
a lot of effort into baking high quality great tasting
cakes, as opposed to mediocre cakes, which need fillings
for flavour and moisture. Second, your wedding cake
is served to a large number of people, if your cake
has a filling it may fall apart during the cutting
process and will not be aesthetically pleasing. Remember,
we eat with our eyes first. So come in and taste our
cakes and you decide!

5. Do we need an appointment to order our wedding
cake?
Appointments are preferred but not necessary from
February to May. In the busy wedding season (June
to September) it is highly recommended to make an
appointment. Also, remember that Saturday is not a
good day to come in to order your wedding cake in
high season because of cake deliveries. Evening appointments
are available upon request.

6. Can our wedding cake be delivered to the reception
site?
Yes. Our delivery service includes delivery, set
up, and flower arranging. Remember to order your cake
early if you require deliver service.

7. How many months before the wedding should we
book our wedding cake?
You can book your cake up to 2 weeks prior to the
wedding providing we have an opening for your day.
But we DO NOT recommend this.
You should order your cake 4 to 6 months prior to
the wedding to insure you get the service such as
deliver or stand use you are looking for.
We suggest coming in after you have booked your florist.
However, if you are finding time is flying by and
you want to insure your spot with us we can prebook
your date and all of the details can be decided 2-3
months prior to the wedding.

8. How much should I budget for my wedding cake?
The size of your wedding cake will be determined
by three things. The first is the number of guests
at your reception. The second is the time of day that
your reception is being held, and the third is other
individual details such as other desserts being available
(pastry table).
On average we suggest budgeting $250-350 for a 3-tier
cake suitable for a reception size of 120-200 guests.

9. How many tiers of cake will I need?
We bake our cakes in a variety of different heights
and sizes, so the choice is yours. We can make a 3-tier
wedding cake for 30 guests or 300.

10. What is Belle Cake and Candy's payment policy?
If you are ordering your cake more than 3 months
prior to the wedding $50 (fifty dollars Canadian)
is required at the time of booking. At 3 months prior
to the wedding we require the first half of the total
wedding cake cost and the final payment is due the
day before the wedding. For example: if your cake
will cost $225 you will pay $50 upon booking, then
$87.50 at 3 months, and the final $87.50 the day
before the wedding. You can also pay the entire amount
upfront if that suits your budget better.

11. We want to make sure all of the wedding services
are booked early but we don't have specific details
worked out. Can we prebook our space with Belle Cake
and Candy?
Yes. We offer a prebooking service which allows you
to guarantee a spot with us. All details for the cake
must be finalized 3 months prior to your wedding.
You can also do a prebooking over the phone (this
is good for out of town clients!)

12. We are looking for wedding favours. What does
Belle Cake and Candy offer and when should we order
them?
Check out our favour gallery
for some ideas. Chocolates and Crystal Candies can
be custom coloured and flavoured
to suit your requirements. You should order your wedding
favours 6 to 8 weeks prior to the wedding date. We
allow you to increase your order up to 2 weeks prior
to pick up.
